ISCEV Special Interest Group (SIG) – Animal Electrophysiology Hints & Tips
Animal electrophysiology can present special challenges that are not encountered in human testing. For instance, the response that you obtain will be altered by the type of anesthesia that you use. Animals with predominately rod or cone retinas may require special recording conditions that differ from prescribed protocols. Many of these issues are not described or discussed in textbooks, but rather are passed down from mentors to graduate students during training.
This SIG will provide an opportunity to identify and discuss these problems and possibly, how to solve them.
You are invited to share brief examples (5 minutes or less) of animal electrophysiology in which: 1) you had to deviate from recognized protocols in order to obtain repeatable results; 2) you were not able to obtain results you trusted regardless of what you did; or 3) you have a suggestion on how to make some aspect of recording easier. If we have enough novel contributions, we will consider publication on “Special Considerations for Animal Electrophysiology” in Documenta Ophthalmologica.
Please send the title(s) of your contribution(s) to Mary Johnson <mjohnson@umaryland.edu>. The SIG will be held Thursday morning of the ISCEV meeting, prior to the 1st paper session.
